LEGACY
In a world smitten by ‘fast fashion,’ our focus lies on the unhurried, methodical art of handmade craftsmanship. Each Orphan Work piece moves through many hands in its creation, a collaborative rigor of artisans imbued with the soul of Italy. Every creation is unique, carrying the essence of generations.
Our Maestri wish to convey the message that they are not part of an assembly line. Instead, each fixture is meticulously crafted by a sole artisan in a small shop, set against the backdrop of Tuscany’s ancient history dating back to the 8th Century BC.
There are only 17 maestros in the world. 15 of them are making your Orphan Work lights. These awards are from the Italian government and further solidify their status in the artisan world. To achieve this they must go through a rigorous set of curriculum of skill and knowledge. A steadfast commitment ingrained in passing down the wealth of craft knowledge to ensure its legacy.
Legacy is a living thread that links those who came before that might otherwise fade. It is the past whispering to the present. It insists on authenticity. A quiet endurance. It holds the weight of tradition. Defying fleeting trends. A commitment to preserve, carried forward by hands that remember. What is made with intention today, becomes tomorrow’s heirloom.
Our clients are increasingly interested in origin.
Acquiring collections driven by their interest in
where they come from, who made them and why.
Our artisans perpetuate centuries-old traditions that lie at the core of their legacy, driven by a fervor for craftsmanship that spans generations. It’s not uncommon to find a grandfather, father, and daughter working together in our workshops.
This partnership is not just important; it’s the very essence of our studio. Blending design with age-old techniques without sacrificing the traditional heritage or production values.
Every shape is an ancestral shape retaining the mark of the maestro. The protectors of the history our ancestors gave us.

OUR
DESIGN
HOUSE
Make Italian craftsmanship a part of your story and be a part of the commitment to support it through design around the world. A celebration of the unhurried, methodical art of the handmade. It still exists.
What classifies a European Design House?
A European design house comes from workshop culture and inherited craft, where production is treated as cultural continuity rather than industry. It possesses a serious literacy of materials, choosing for their inherent rightness, not for trends or efficiencies.
It acknowledges lineage (craft, guilds, ateliers, industrial arts), it values apprenticeship and it treats production as culture, not merely output.
Its design language is disciplined, prioritizing proportion, restraint, and typology over novelty. Production remains small and artisanal; quality is the result of human method, not scale. It occupies a space where value is set by labor and scarcity. The work is framed intellectually, understood as part of a historical and cultural lineage rather than lifestyle.
Well-known examples of our peers that produce original designs under their own design house label (Independent or Stand‑Alone Houses) are: Chanel (France), Prada (Italy), Vitra (Switzerland), Vivienne Westwood (London), Raf Simons (Belgium), Hermès (France) and of course, Orphan Work (Italy).
